Summer is now in full swing, hot humid days and lazy evenings For the past 20 years I have had the kids around, pretty much 24/7. I see reminders of my oldest, still has some clothes here and some of his things, but for the most part he is living full time in Raleigh. The next oldest is now working four days a week and I don't see him much, other than his laundry. My daughter this summer has been back and fourth to Raleigh for 4H events, and animal science camp at NCSU. The youngest was at boy scout camp and later this month will be attending “Fur Fish and Game” for a week. I would say it has been a sprinkling of having the kids around. A prelude to when they do all leave the nest. Where has the time gone? This past Friday it was just me and the youngest and I didn’t have any clients.
So, as to not let this precious time slip away, I told him to get up early we had plans. We hiked the Carolina Thread Trail in Mineral Springs. Not a long hike, but enough. On the hike I noticed how he would be way out ahead, while I took my time to notice the sights and take pictures. Made me think of how it’s not about the race, but the journey. I am glad I took the time to spend with my youngest, just him and I. Time will slip away and I know it won’t be long that he too will spread his wings.
