Caster oil has many benefits.  I recently used caster oil to help with a laceration on a horses leg.  We started with using triple antibiotic cream and after several days used caster oil instead.  Within a short time we could see an improvement in the healing process.    So the next time you need an antibiotic cream and don't have any on hand, caster oil will do!

Why Oral Intake of Essential Oils is Not Recommended

7/24/2019

Yes, essential oils come from nature, but that does not mean they are safe if used incorrectly.   After many of hours of classes I am more  cautious of essential oils than before taking classes.

I found this information sheet and have permission to reprint and post and would like to share this for all who ask about taking essential oils orally.

WHY WE DO NOT RECOMMEND ORAL INTAKE OF ESSENTIAL OILS

If you decide to take essential oils orally, we highly suggest you first consult with an experienced, Certified Clinical Aromatherapist.  Ask the people who are suggesting this where they received their Aromatherapy education and how long they have been practicing.  You also need to know what benefits they are seeking by having you take these orally.

1.  Essential oils are highly concentrated plant products.  (example:  it takes about 100 pounds of rosemary leaves to make 1 pound of rosemary essential oil)  Due to this concentration there are specific cautions that need to be taken prior to use of essential oil in any form.

2.  Essential oils do not blend with water.  A drop in a glass of water does not dilute the essential oil.

3.  Some essential oils are mucous membrane irritants and can potential damage the entire mucus membrane lining of the digestive system .

4.  Ingested essential oils are altered by stomach acid and can have an impact on the proper level of digestive juices.

5.  Ingested essential oils reach the liver very quickly and can alter liver enzymes.  One needs to know which essential oils can be ingested and for what benefit.  Is your liver healthy enough to handle this?

6.  Putting an undiluted drop in a capsule can be dangerous.  Capsules can break down and undiluted oils can be released in the esophagus and cause a chemical burn.

7.  DO NOT EVER have a child ingest an essential oil.  The same is true for elderly and frail people.

IF YOU STILL WISH TO TAKE ESSENTIAL OILS ORALLY:
Make sure the oil you are using is safe for oral consumption
Oils and water do not mix.  Putting a drop of essential oil in a teaspoon of honey, stir into a glass of water - the oils will be disseminated into the water .
For capsules:  Fill larger side of the capsule with olive oil, leaving just enough space to add a drop of essential oil.  Put capsule together and take immediately.

October - Breast Awareness Month

10/16/2018

Breast Health Awareness:
October is breast cancer awareness month.

Women need to focus  every month as breast awareness month.  Self exams are important.  You have to be aware of what your body feels like today to know if there is a change tomorrow.

There is another option for evaluating breast health, thermogram.  A thermogram uses an infrared image of the body to see its physiology.  Thermography is a 100% Safe Imaging Test, Painless, No Radiation and Non-Invasive

Thermography was approved by the FDA for breast screening in 1982.  It can detect changes in the breast tissue, such as inflammation and an increase blood supply, years before a mammogram could.

To improve breast health several self care treatments could be suggest by the doctor.  One self care treatment is massage.  Manual Lymph Drainage, (MLD) to the breast tissue and with light cupping has benefitted the breast in helping to break up lymph congestion, showing an improvement in breast tissue.

Same client,  scans from April, 2017, October 2017 and June 2018  Each of these scans shows an improvement in breast tissue.

Do regular self exams, schedule an appointment for a thermogram at http://www.thermographycharlotte.com   to get a base reading, and implement self care including regular woman’s health massage. Schedule an appointment for a massage:  www.lisalmbt.com

Summer is now in full swing, hot humid days and lazy evenings

For the past 20 years I have had the kids around, pretty much 24/7.  I see reminders of my oldest, still has some clothes here and some of his things, but for the most part he is living full time in Raleigh.  The next oldest is now working four days a week and I don't see him much, other than his laundry.  My daughter this summer has been back and fourth to Raleigh for 4H events, and animal science camp at NCSU.  The youngest was at boy scout camp and later this month will be attending “Fur Fish and Game” for a week.

I would say it has been a sprinkling of having the kids around.  A prelude to when they do all leave the nest.

Where has the time gone?  This past Friday it was just me and the youngest and I didn’t have any clients.

So, as to not let this precious time slip away, I told him to get up early we had plans.

We hiked the Carolina Thread Trail in Mineral Springs.  Not a long hike,  but enough.  On the hike I noticed how he would be way out ahead, while I took my time to notice the sights and take pictures.  Made me think of how it’s not about the race, but the journey.  I am glad I took the time to spend with my youngest, just him and I.  Time will slip away and I know it won’t be long that he too will spread his wings.

Knowledge is powerful

                  As women, we have options.

We, as women should be informed and take responsibility for our health.  I am especially referring to our breast health.

The standard for women is to have a mammogram.  There is another, less invasive option for women, a breast thermal imaging.  For more information on breast thermograms visit:  http://holisticbreasthealth.com

Breast thermograms do not replace mammograms, but should be used as an additional tool in accessing our risk of breast disease.

I recently had a thermogram done and will be meeting to discuss the results.  Am I scared, no.    Are there measures to take to improve breast health, yes.  Knowledge is power and there are options.

Where Is Your Life's Path Taking You?

Some times the trail is well marked, a beginning and and end point.  But, many times we are just wandering, not sure where we are going or why.

I for one have many paths, as a wife, mom, homeschool mom, massage therapist and aspiring photographer

Some times the trail is clear and no clearing  trails is needed.  At times much trail clearing is needed.  At some point we reach a fork in the trail, which way?  There is no wrong way, just your way.  Pray and allow God to lead you.

Are you on a clear path, or just wandering enjoying the scenery.

The Magic of Christmas

The magic of Christmas….

As a child there is the special magic of Christmas, the lights, the presents and Santa.  Just listen to a young child at this time of year, the excitement  and wonder in their voices.  Just the other night at the Waxhaw Christmas event I passed a girl of four or five years old.   She was telling her father of her experience of meeting Santa, “I sat on his lap and he is REAL!”  I just smiled to myself.  As a parent of older children, 19, 16, 14 and 11, they no longer experience this magic.   I so miss those days of wonderment, excitement and anticipation of the children. (remember listening to the NORAD as to the location of Santa, and getting the kids to bed, maybe not asleep; but at least in bed!)

But the magic isn’t gone, it is now celebrated along with the  spirit of Christmas.

Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas.

Are you feeling a little full after Thanksgiving?

The after Thanksgiving belly…..

Thanksgiving a day of giving thanks for the many blessing we have; and eating.

A healthy digestive system is important to one’s overall health.  With that being said if your digestive system is backed up just you don’t feel well.

Not long back with my youngest we were working on the digestive system for science.  One experiment was taking an old pantyhose and using crushed up saltines and water to mimic food being digested and squeezing it to remove the water and eventually make it move through the intestines.

One of the ways to help your digestive system is with caster oil packs.  I routinely use caster oil packs in a massage session.

I use cold pressed caster oil, rubbed into the belly.  A cotton towel is then applied over the belly and a hot water bottle on that.  While the pack is on the belly I continue with the massage.  The caster oil absorbs into the body helping to hydrate and lubricate the internal organs.  The massaging of the belly also helps to get things moving. I have had positive feedback on the caster oil packs applied to the belly.

Yes, that is Goose's schoolwork on the digestive system above.

A day spent with Son.....

Yesterday I attended the 2016 INSTRUCTOR IN-SERVICE BANQUET/AWARDS LUNCH at Mill Stone 4H Camp.  I didn't want to leave my youngest home alone, so he tagged along with me..  I am sure for an eleven year old this is not how he wanted to spend his day.  All in all, I think in the end he had a pretty good time as he was granted permission to shoot five stand trap with us, which he shot well!
Picture
On our way home with the front coming in and the setting sun, it made for an awesome sky.  So after shooting shot gun, on the way home I took some shots with my camera.
